Red Reef Park was the outcome of the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center project to cover up the jagged rocks off shore. Actually not intended for an artificial reef, these 10 feet from the shore structures became one anyway as hundreds of marine species decided that this artificial structure was no different than an actual reef. Rainbow colored or striped fishes, sea turtles, eels, and even sponges and some corals made their home on the Red Reef Park. If you’re into Boca Raton snorkeling, be sure to check out this reef.
Shipwrecks functioning as reefs are also available in Boca Raton. The Palm Beach Artificial Reef Program has scuttled more a dozen of wrecks in some locations. Many are in less than 75 feet of water and they offer great opportunities for Boca Raton snorkeling and exploring these wrecks. One such example is the Noula Express; a Danish freighter seized by the federal officials in a drug case and scuttled 17 years ago to create an artificial reef in 70 feet of water south of Boca Raton Inlet on the Palm Beach/Broward county line. Unfortunately hurricane Andrew tore this ship apart, leaving smaller sections of twisted metal sticking up from the sand. All in all, four ships are sunk for artificial reefs in 65 to 75 feet southeast of Boca Raton Inlet — The Sea Emperor, Noula Express, United Caribbean and Ancient Mariner.

Located 15 miles south of Saint Augustine that borders Pellicer Creek down to the Matanzas River is a designated canoe trail in Florida. Faver- Dykes State Park is a popular site for bird- watching, nature tripping, summer camping and outdoor picnic.
Aside from all of those activities, it is also as great snorkeling in Faver- Dykes. It has such a pristine condition with an aquatic preserve where you can see the abundance of marine life. Both saltwater and freshwater species can be caught like the red drum, black drum, sheepshead, spotted seatrout and common snook. There are also huge mouth bass and bream that comes closer to the headwaters of the creek.
After snorkeling in Faver- Dykes, you can trek the one half mile loop. One trail begins nearby the picnic location and heads along the pine flatwoods into the scrub. Another is set in the camping ground where it leads to the hardwood hammock. There are also park boundary and back wood roads that you can choose for hiking. However, you need to make arrangements with the staff for you to enter.
You can also opt to see the flying animals because the park has more than one hundred bird species especially during the spring and fall migrations. There are songbirds, wood warblers, eagles and falcons that return to their nests each year. Wading egrets, wood storks, white ibis and kingly herons feed in the tidal marshes.
This Florida state park is also an abode to deer, turkeys, hawks, bobcats, foxes and river otters. It is such an interesting place to visit where there is even an abundance of trees, shrubs and wildflowers. When you travel down the unpaved park drives under a canopy of live oaks, there is a covered resurrection of fern and green- fly orchid. Some rare plants grow including the Indian pipe, spring coralroot ad Florida coontie.
If snorkeling in Faver- Dykes is not much of your thing, you can choose to go canoeing. The tributaries offer a charming venue to observe the flora and fauna wildlife. They can be rented even for advanced reservations.

This turtle safe haven is a lost paradise (I’m sure our silent shelled friends here will agree) and a Turtle Preservation Spot. The Hol Chan is a natural cut in the reef, about 25-30 feet deep. A diverse amount of marine life and underwater landscape can be found here. But the reason why I included Hol Chan to our best dives & snorkeling vacations adventures flyer is the Shark-Ray Alley. A shallow cut in the reef where snorkelers will assuredly encounter sharks and stingrays. Is petting shark your fancy?
Both Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley are within Ambergris Caye, which is only a small part of the Belize Barrier Reef. Did I mention that the Belize Reef is the second largest reef?

Kauai is the oldest and most northern of the Hawaiian Islands. A tropical paradise surrounded by the Pacific Ocean’s sparkling waters. Referred to as the Garden Isle, every part of the island has lush rainforests and radiant flora. Most visitors gravitate to the south shore or the north shore. The north shore is pure bliss for quiet relaxing. However, if you prefer a more active vacation the south shore is known for its excellent beaches and activities such as Kauai scuba, snorkeling, diving, swimming and just plain lazing about in the sun. Shipwreck Beach has excellent surf also.
When you are ready to pick your towel up off the sand, make your way to one of the eight golf courses that are sprinkled throughout the Garden Isle. Three of the top five courses in Hawaii are found in Kauai, so why not test your accuracy and nerves on a challenging and scenically breathtaking course. Poipu Bay Golf Course, a Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design, brings the ocean winds into play to make for a difficult test of skill while also highlighting any weaknesses in your game. Kauai Lagoons, designed by Jack Nicklaus, is another excellent option whose dramatic cliffs, expansive ravines, and acres of tropical lagoons are designed to throw off the game of even the most experienced players.
The beauty of Kauai was not only meant to be admired, it was also meant to be explored by visitors of the island. There are hiking trails interspersed throughout the island so visitors can venture into the ninety percent of the island that is not accessible by road. One of the first trails any first time visitor should explore is the five-mile Kukui Trail that takes visitors to the bottom of the Waimea Canyon via the shortest route. Beginning off the Iliau Loop Trail, hikers are rewarded with a spectacular swimming hole at the bottom and breathtaking views of the canyon throughout the journey. Kuilau Ridge Trail offers a more encompassing view of Kauai’s allure by taking hikers on a four mile trip past glistening waterfalls and an abundance of flora.
There are many types of snorkeling and diving activities based in Hawaii to cater to all skill levels. Here are just a few:
Kauai scuba diving activities such as all day trips above a 65 foot catamaran heading north along the Napali coast. Pass lush valleys, sea caves and waterfalls while hearing the history of the coast.
